Rules & Guidelines

General Information

To participate in The Posthumous Papers of the Stiggins’ Society Challenge, you have to:

  • Be of legal drinking age in your country of residence, by March 1st, 2020.
  • Be able to introduce your cocktail in English.
  • Live in the Netherlands.
  • Note that the official language of this international cocktail competition is English.
Judging
  • The final decision from the judges is exclusively theirs and is non-negotiable.
  • The result will be based 100% on the criteria drawn up by the expert’s panel.
Timing

The Posthumous Papers of the Pineapple Club challenge runs from the 3rd of March 2020 to the 3rd  of June 2020:

  • Your story and recipe should be submitted before or on the 24th of March 2020;
  • The ten finalists will be announced on the 20th of April 2020;
  • The finalist will promote their cocktail from the 1st of May until the 31st of May 2020;
  • The winners will be announced on the 3rd of June 2020.
Prize

Prize for the winning cocktail and story is an individual ticket to the Stiggins’ Society in Cognac in June 2020.

Phase 1
Story Rules
  • Your story should be min. 300 and max. words 600 (excl. recipe).
  • Your story must have a leading role for yourself.
  • Your story must centre around the pineapple.
  • Emulate Dickens’ storytelling style.
Evaluation Criteria Story (75% score weight)
  • Originality.
  • Fit of the story with recipe.
  • Grammar.
  • Execution of the brief:
    1. Between 300 – 600 words;
    2. Leading role for yourself;
    3. Centers around a pineapple;
    4. Written in Dickens’ style.
Cocktail Recipe Rules
  • Cocktail recipe must be inspired by your story.
  • Cocktail recipe must contain min. 45ml Plantation Stiggins’ Fancy Pineapple Rum.
  • Replicability is not a requirement.
  • The entire cocktail recipe should be expressed in measurements or amount of drops used (“dash”).
  • Other ingredients, such as fruits, garnishments, etc., should be specified. For example: “Lime Juice” is unacceptable. The exact amount should be expressed, for example “30ml lime juice”.
  • The cocktail must be prepared in in a short, a long drink, a coupe etc.
  • Shots are not allowed.
  • The cocktail should be mixed: with a shaker, mixing glass, a bar spoon, or in a blender.
Evaluation Criteria Cocktail Recipe (25% score weight)
  • Cocktail:
    1. Recipe must contain min. 45ml Plantation Stiggins’ Fancy Pineapple Rum;
    2. The entire cocktail recipe should be expressed in measurements or amount of drops used (“dash”);
    3. Other ingredients, such as fruits, garnishments, etc., should be specified. For example: “Lime Juice” is unacceptable. The exact amount should be expressed, for example “30ml lime juice”.
  • Association cocktail & story.
  • Association of the ingredients.
  • Creativity. 
Phase 2

The ten finalists will have one month to promote their cocktail. In the final week, our judges will come by and evaluate the cocktail, as well as the visibility in your bar. The scores combined will determine the winner.

Evaluation Criteria Cocktail (60% score weight)
Technique and presentation (25%)
  • Charisma.
  • Manners.
  • Precision in bartender’s work.
  • Knowledge about the brand.
  • Knowledge about the association of the ingredients.
Bonuspoints (5% EXTRA)
  • Stiggins’ness (look & talk, and acquire the mannerisms of Reverend Stiggins).
Organoleptic subjects (25%)
  • Appearance.
  • Aroma.
  • Taste: Initial, Body & Fade.
  • Balance.
  • Texture.
Promotion (10%)
  • Visibility in the bar.
  • Creativity of visibility.
Poll (40% score weight)

The ten final stories will be put up in an online poll on the dedicated website. When the month is done, points will be awarded based on your position in the poll (10 points for 1st place, 1 point for 10th place). It is your job to promote your serve and story online! How?

  • Spread your personal URL on your social media channels and throughout your network.
  • Have guests read your story and drink your cocktail, then ask them to vote! You will receive a menu for your bar with a QR code that directs to your personal URL.
  • Have your bar promote your serve and story too.
Cocktail Names

It is prohibited to present a cocktail with names that are considered vulgar, offensive or sexual, in nature or with words, associated with narcotics or other illegal substances. Other names that will not be permitted include those that are degrading towards people, organizations, political affiliations, ethnic and/or religious groups.

Responsibilities
  • Competitors should be cordial and friendly towards other competitors. Any participant that demonstrates the opposite and/or aggressive behaviour towards their competitors will be disqualified.
  • Those who use inadequate techniques or promote unhygienic standards will be disqualified immediately and will be disqualified.
  • All competitors must have good behaviour throughout the challenge. They should act as great representatives of the Plantation Rum brand.
Rights
  • Plantation Rum and its distributors, reserve the right to use the cocktail recipe created for any stage of the challenge in its publications and marketing materials during and following the conclusion of the tournament.
  • Competitors grant Plantation Rum and event organizers the right to the images and understand that they may be used in future marketing materials.
